East Berlin

WHEN & WHERE

The Berlin Marathon is taking place on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th of September this year. Please be aware that this can cause delays for our Discover Berlin, Hitler’s Germany, and East Berlin tours. The tours will be running (ha!) but the routes may have to be altered due to closed roads and crowds.

Tour the streets of Cold War Berlin

Come with us and experience the time of Kennedy, Khrushchev, Gorbachev and Reagan, when the USA and USSR came face to face every day, when there were guards standing over the Berlin Wall, and escape tunnels running beneath it.

Dive into Berlin’s divided days and take a hard look at life with communism, secret police, and the Berlin Wall.  Why did Germany split into two countries? Did the Wall really come down by accident? Was East Germany really the most spied upon society in history? Our expert guides answer all these questions and more as we take you back in time to tour a city torn in two.

  • Brandenburg Gate
  • The Palace of Tears (Tränenpalast)
  • Ghost Stations
  • Tunnel 57
  • Experience the Fall of the Wall at Bornholmer Strasse!
  • Soviet, French, British, and American Embassies
  • The “Death Strip”
  • The Chapel of Reconciliation
  • The Berlin Wall Memorial

Your tour will end where the Cold War did, standing in the footsteps of the thousands of East Berliners who brought down the Wall at Bornholmer Strasse.
